The thing I love about this set is all of the hidden art. One of my favorite artists and just influential people in the industry is MGK (@MachineGunKelly) and he inspires me all the time. If you look in the background of some of these, his vinyl cover for General Admission is a little pop of art and color to the set. Along with a ton of other art that a friend of mine, Lydia (@lydiaxrose), handmade and was so gracious to let me use her space to create this set. I've recently been on tour with a girl named Justina (@JustinaValentine), and have had an amazing opportunity to tour the east coast and connect with many beautiful individuals. The living dead girl jacket in the background was made out of inspiration from Jus. I wanted a staple piece to wear that had personality, grit, depth, and color. So the night before I left for tour, I tore, painted, studded and bedazzled one of my old leather jackets. I've never been so proud of a jacket in my life, and being around such a strong female inspiration that Jus is, I had to put some soul into my skull. I named her Saharra.
Through touring with Jus, her amazing openers, and @OriginalWhiteT from who I discovered this rad tee (and another but that's for another shoot). I used to spend days in the summer tie dying ALL of my older tees so I love supporting tie-dye shops and local brands. Through touring I have heard some beautiful live music, seen the most enchanting views of cities and landscapes, and there is nothing more inspiring than traveling. I woke up and was going to take the day off, but decided to shoot and edit the set in one day. Spending time in other people's homes can really make you see new beauty in art. Everyone's home tells a story of who they are, how they feel, what they see, and it's something that we should be grateful to be invited to experience. So when I woke up, I was inspired by the art of a new surrounding, and it felt like home because truly, EST is a family.
Which is why I titled my set "General Submission", as a play on the cover. My biggest inspiration for this set was K, and sometimes it's almost like being a slave to a stranger for the love of art and music. Going to see him live, and the feeling that his music can give you, is a feeling everyone should experience. The family bond between the fans is unreal, and just standing in line is like a giant reunion. Staying with Lyd, the show, the feeling of home and positive vibes, it all made me want to create something special and me. Not just me, it had to be RAW, so I chose to not wear any makeup or style my hair. RAW. I believe that to really know and appreciate what you have in life, you have to know and be one with yourself. You have to treat your body right, keep your mind sharp, and be open to new ideas and opportunities.
I also wanted this set to be personal, a submission, because music is something that goes deeper than just words. It's a feeling that can tear you apart and lift you up, it's powerful and all consuming at times. There are a couple songs off of General Admission that are close to my heart, "Gone" and "Everyday". Both songs I've heard live and they have moved me so much and it shows you just how close music is to the things that happen in our lives. When I finally heard them live, it pulled me back to reality for a moment because I had just went through a bad breakup and his music was there through all of that, it was almost surreal. This set is my way of submission to the art, the music, and I'm so happy to share a little bit of me.
I apologize for the incredibly long back story, what can I say, a dab'll do ;)

XOXO
